Kananaskis Country

Canoeing on Kananaskis River

Kananaskis Country borders the Town of Canmore and Banff National Park and covers 4000 square kilometres of the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies.

In Kananaskis Country there are five provincial parks, four wildland provincial parks, one ecological reserve, and several provincial recreation areas. It encompasses the Canmore Nordic Centre – the site of the 1988 Olympic Nordic Events and is 2 minutes drive from Canmore.

K-Country promotes preservation, outdoor recreation and an appreciation for its heritage. The vast areas of protected networks reflect Albertaís commitment to preserving and protecting its sustainable resources for future generations. Albertans are proud of this unintentional well kept secret.

Visitors are asked to do their part in protecting these wonderful landscapes by minimizing their impact during visits by following the parks adage of “take only pictures and leave only foot prints” !

Nakiska Ski Resort is nestled in the heart of the park and is a 40 minutes drive from Canmore . This site was also originally designed for the 1988 Olympics for alpine events. Today it is part of the resort Village of Kananaskis that encompasses 3 hotels, 2 golf courses (a 5 minute drive from the village) and numerous adventure activities.
