Canmore Folk Music Festival

Canmore has long been known regionally for its sense of community and its many annual cultural and sporting events. “Check in” at the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge, 5 min. from downtown Canmore and “Check out” these upcoming events in and around Canmore. There is something going on year round in Canmore and everyone gets involved.

FEBRUARY

Canmore Winter Carnival
Winter Carnival, is a celebration of the season and a popular community event in Canmore. Carnival events will include: An Athletes’ Parade & Welcoming Ceremonies, a Block Party with live music and fire pits, JackRabbit and Biathlon Bears races, Kid N’Mutt dog sled races, the Mayor’s and Media Challenge events, Street Hockey, Ice Carving, Log Sawing and Snow Sculpting.

Sharkfest
This Cross-Country Skiing Event organized by the Rocky Mountain Racers Ski Club usually takes place at the Mt. Shark Racing Trails in Kananaskis Country. For more information, visit http://www.rmracers.ca/

Canmore Children’s Festival
This 2 days event is a celebration of our children. It’s an opportunity to set the kids free and unleash your inner child for two days of fun, laughter and merriment. High-flying Acrobats, Mesmerizing Magicians, Astounding Jugglers, Wide-eyed Laughter, Music, Theatre, Storytelling, Crafts, Stilt-walking, Dancing, Face Painting, Clowning.

Rocky Mountain Women’s Run
Run & Walk Event for all ages and fitness levels! The Rocky Mountain Soap Company Women’s Run / Walk began in 2008 to bring women of all running levels together for a safe, fun, and inclusive event. Highlights include a healthy post-race reception, well-being stations along the course, a non-competitive atmosphere, and great swag.

artSPeak Canmore Arts Festival
This exciting annual weekend festival celebrates Canmore’s artistic spirit by featuring performing artists and artisans, an art walk, a literary festival, film screening, and street performers. Presented by the Canadian Mountain Arts Foundation, artsPeak offers festival guests a wonderful and inspiring array of venues and activities to see and experience and most artsPeak venues and presentations are Free to the Public!

JULY

Canada Day Parade and Celebration
One thing you can count on is Canada Day in Canmore. Our festivities celebrate the special joy of being Canadian. Locals line up early for the pancake breakfast that starts at 7:30 AM. Main Street is jammed with people who come from all over southern Alberta to view the parade. Truly spending our national day in beautiful Canmore is a pleasure that should not be missed.

Canmore Triathlon
Olympic Distance: Swim 1500m – Bike 40km – Run 10km
Sprint Distance: Swim 500m – Bike 20km – Run 5km
Offering a first class event staged in a pristine lake framed by the spectacular Rocky Mountains. The bike course is set along the incredibly scenic Three Sister’s Parkway leading competitors to the Canmore Nordic Centre for a paved forest lined run with an Olympic stadium finish. 24 Hours of Adrenalin Mountain Bike Race
24 Hours of Adrenalin is the fastest growing mountain bike event series in North America, and it comes to Canmore as a spectacular annual event. The sporting part of 24 Hours of Adrenaline revolves around a massive relay, where solo riders or teams of up to ten people compete to ride as many laps as possible in a 24-Hour time frame.

AUGUST

Annual Canmore Folk Music Festival
Alberta’s oldest folk music festival offers a weekend filled with afternoon workshops, craft and food booths, an extensive family area and a stellar line-up of evening concerts all taking place in Canmore’s Centennial Park.

SEPTEMBER

Canmore Highland Games
Don’t miss the biggest Celtic culture experience in Western Canada! Watch competitions by hundreds of highland dancers, pipers and drummers and heavy sportsmen. See sheep dog demonstrations and visit Celtic vendors and Clan tents. The Beer Garden and Evening Ceilidh feature non-stop entertainment in our heated festival tent. All tickets, food and drink (haggis! fish and chips!) are available on-site. No matter what the weather, all events go on. Annual Canmore Rocky Mountain 1/2 Marathon, 10k & 5k Run/Walk
Considered one of the most beautiful runs in Alberta! Routed through woodlands, beside mountain streams, through a historic mine site and stunning views of mountain scenery. The track is a combination of asphalt and high quality gravel trail with several short climbs and winding paths. Striving to be the GREENEST race in Canada, all possible products and procedure will be eco-friendly.

All proceeds from the race will go towards women’s literacy, numeracy, and business training in Central America and Western Africa. CAUSE Canada’s Women’s Integral Empowerment Program (WIEP) is being made possible by revenues generated through partnerships with athletes like you!

Terry Fox Run
Be part of Terry’s legacy of hope in battling cancer. By participating in Canmore’s Terry Fox Run, you will help to raise funds to combat this disease- and you can enjoy a day in the mountains at the same time. Run lengths are from 1 km to 10 km including an Expectant Mother’s Walk, a Children’s Walk, a Puppy Walk and the 10 km run itself.

OCTOBER

Annual Festival of the Eagles
Become “enraptured”! Join serious and professional birdwatchers and just-as-serious amateur bird lovers in the autumn celebration of the ancient migration of the golden eagle along the high crests of the Canadian Rockies. Share in the spirit of the eagle, take part in guided eagle-viewing hikes, or listen as interpreters explain the ancient phenomenon. Watch for news on the featured evening speaker – always a sell-out event.

NOVEMBER

Vic Lewis Band Festival
Strike up the band! Canmore welcomes hundreds of young musicians to this annual, non-competitive festival to honour the musician who introduced band music to Bow Valley students in the 1940s. Enjoy an evening concert by some of the finest school bands in Alberta.

Ringing In The Holidays
Enter a Gingerbread House for the competition, listen to live music and welcome in the holiday season with bells on as we count down the seconds until the Christmas lights are turned on for the first time, welcoming the holiday season with joy and laughter.

DECEMBER

New Year’s Eve Party on the Pond
Skating under a starlit sky – lights twinkling against a mountain backdrop – music, laughter, family and friends – New Year’s Eve on the 10th Street Pond – a Canmore tradition. Take a horse and wagon ride, have a hot dog and hot chocolate, warm yourself by a blazing fire. Each year hundreds of families come out for Canmore’s annual Party on the Pond. Perhaps it’s because we’re a community of outdoor enthusiasts or maybe it’s the old-fashioned charm that the evening offers. Whatever the reason, we’d like to invite you to be part of a Canmore tradition. See you there!
