The Alpine Club of Canada and the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides are long time friends of the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge. Our owner, Hans Peter Stettler is a member of the Association and himself an accomplished mountain climber, guide and honoured patron of the ACMG.
Two of the main objectives of the association are:
1. To protect the public interest by advocating the highest standards of risk management for mountain guiding and climbing instruction.
2. Advance the guiding/climbing instructing profession by advocating for industry best practices.
This year Rudi Gertsch is the Patron being honoured at the Guides Ball fundraiser. Born in Switzerland at the town of Wengen. A second generation Swiss Mountain Guide, the Canadian Wilderness captivated Rudi as it was so nice to be on a peak, just you and a client. “You couldn’t do that in the Alps.”
As an examiner for more that a decade, Rudi dedicated himself to teaching aspiring guides to be as adept on skis as on a sharp end of a rope. Rudi was instrumental in developing the Ski Guide’s training program and along with Hans Peter Stettler in bringing Canada into the International Federation of Mountain Guides (IFMGA).
Through their expertise in guiding, skiing and mountain safety, the Swiss guides had a profound influence on the mountain community and the development of the profession of mountain guiding in Canada. To learn more about adventures available through the Alpine Club of Canada
